#4: Take a nap (yes, it is spiritual!)
Tricia Hersey, founder of The Nap Ministry, author of Rest is Resistance: A Manifesto, and also known as "The Nap Bishop," is passionate about rest being a sacred practice in our world of relentless grind culture. Hersey additionally created a resource called The Nap Ministry's Rest Deck: 50 Practice to Resist Grind Culture that is "rooted in social justice and imbued with spirituality" and designed to "offer short, accessible practices designed to uplift anyone suffering from the toxic effects of grind culture" (Chronicle Books). Here are some excerpts from the Rest Deck:

"I will reject anything that degrades my divinity."

"When you overwork and exhaust yourself, there is no space for the magic and mystery of rest to move in your life. Your worth is not tied to how much you produce. Remember what is true. Your invitation to deprogram from the brainwashing of grind culture is always present. Reject the things that stand in the way of rest. You are a human being worthy of rest."

"My body is sacred. Exhaustion does not honor the sacred."

"You don't want a seat at the table. The table is full of oppressors. You want a blanket and pillow down by the ocean. You want to rest. Exhaustion is not your legacy. Honor the divinity in yourself. Turn your back on grind culture. You are sacred."

"Rest is my foundation to build, invent, restore, and imagine the world I want to see."
"You were enough before capitalism lied. You were enough before white supremacy lied. Both violent systems have uprooted the self-esteem and self-worth of all exposed to them. As we uncover the lies we've been told about who we are, we must turn to rest. Rest is our foundation. You want a world rooted in justice? Rest more."

"How will I be useless to capitalism today?" - Brontë Velez

"Meditate on this quote and consider the small ways you can divest from grind culture today. It will not be easy. Liberation in a culture fueled by disconnection and individualism is never easy. Rest is a resistance because it disrupts the dominant narrative. You can decide to disrupt capitalism every day in small moments and small actions. Rest is your true power."
