Position Opening: Executive Director/Campus Minister

Have you ever felt called to campus ministry?  ThreeHouse is seeking an Executive Director/Campus Minister to lead its campus ministry. ThreeHouse is a unique collaborative campus ministry with support from the UMC, ELCA, and several other partner congregations.  ThreeHouse primarily serves students at the University of Northern Iowa campus in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and at times, other higher education communities in the Cedar Valley.  ThreeHouse seeks to serve college students by centering on compassion, inclusion, creativity, curiosity, thoughtfulness, and faithful living. Our mission is to offer experiences that connect the campus community to God and one another, ultimately transforming individuals lives, the community, and the world while exploring and growing together in Christ.

Job Summary

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

  • Serves as the primary spiritual and organizational leader for the ThreeHouse Collaborative Ministry community.

  • Responsible for conveying the ThreeHouse vision and mission with all those affiliated with the ThreeHouse Collaborative Campus ministries.  

  • Oversee ThreeHouse professional and student staff and leaders.

  • Recruit, train, advise and attend meetings of the ThreeHouse Board of Directors and its committees.  Serve as an ex-officio member of the board.

  • Oversee fundraising and development efforts.  Cultivate relationships with donors, potential donors, Collaborative Partner Churches, ecumenical institutional funding, and grant opportunities.  Oversee the administration of the funds raised for the annual budget and capital expenditures.

  • Meet with and develop relationships with Partner Church clergy.  Seek opportunities to preach in area churches, and other settings to share the ThreeHouse story.

  • Oversee the care and maintenance of ThreeHouse facilities, grounds, and parsonage through work with the Administrative Assistant and in consultation with the Building and Grounds committee.

  • Direct all communication efforts using electronic, social media, print/mail, and in person contacts.  

  • Represent the ThreeHouse Collaborative Campus Ministries on denominational boards including Iowa United Methodist Conference Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry, Northeast Iowa Synod of the ELCA and Lutheran Campus Ministry (LUMIN), UKIRK(Presbyterian), etc.

CAMPUS MINISTER

  • Attend to the overall atmosphere of the ThreeHouse community.

  • Oversee, provide vision, and leadership to ongoing campus and ThreeHouse faith activities such as worship, Bible studies, discussion and covenant groups, service/mission projects, retreats, English language classes and other activities which challenge students, faculty, and staff to explore and deepen their faith.  

  • Oversee the development, marketing, implementation, and evaluation of ongoing programs (i.e. Listening Post, Treat Trike, Annual Block Party) in consultation with staff, students, and Program committee members.

  • Maintain a visible presence on campus.  Collaborate with campus faculty, staff, and student organizations.

  • Provide pastoral care, as needed and appropriate, with students, faculty and staff.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Master of Divinity (or ordination-qualifying degree)

  • Ordination in one of these ThreeHouse affiliated denominations (i.e. Disciples of Christ, ELCA, Episcopal, PCUSA, UCC, UMC), but would consider someone on ordination track.

  • Preference given to candidates with five to ten years of relevant experience in parish or campus ministry and/or relevant administrative experience working with young adults.

  • Commitment to the ThreeHouse mission, including inviting, welcoming, and affirming all people as beloved children of God. 

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, along with an ability to preach, teach, and develop effective working relationships with a wide-range of people within the university and community.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with college students and with individuals of a variety of different backgrounds.

  • Proven experience in organizational leadership, community building, fiscal management and fundraising, pastoral care and counseling, and faith formation with young adults from a variety of different religious and spiritual traditions.

  • Full-time schedule, often with night and weekend work required.

  • Model a vital and growing personal spiritual life, including worship, service, prayer,  justice work, and activities which nurture one’s soul.
